Day III in Italy

Here we go with pictures of our final day in Verona and possibly the city’s most famous sight. The home of Julia and the balcony where Romeo professed his love for her. Sigh…

Even though I have to admit it’s kind of hard feeling this romantic vibe, while being shoved and stepped on by hundred other tourists, but the place holds a special feeling none the less.

No I’m not strange, touching the breast of the Juliet statue is supposed to bring you luck. ;)

I’m curious, has anyone of you ever been to Verona? If not, I can only recommend it. In my opinion the city is just as beautiful as Rome (albeit a bit smaller in size) but a little bit less pretentious.

Day II in Italy - Part two

As promised, here are a few more pictures of our visit to Sirmione. I love this place so much, I simply couldn’t put my camera down. :)

We had lunch at this amazing little Italian place, (haha big surprise there, huh??) il Girasole and got an uber-delicious treat for dessert. Should you ever find yourself in Sirminone, be sure to visit this restaurant. The food was delicious and the staff super nice!! Very recommended!

Found the cutest little Antique shop in a side alley. I seriously wanted to buy the whole place (but settled on a little picture frame)!

And because no trip to Italy is perfect until you’ve seen a Vespa… ;))

Day II in Italy - Part one

On Friday we headed west toward a charming little town called Sirmione right on the shore of Lago die Garda.
Sirmione lies on the southern side of Lago di Garda and is actually part of a little peninsula which protrudes 4 kilometers into the lake. So the city is surrounded by water on both sides. You can also really ‘see’ that because that strip of land is so narrow that on some parts it’d take you only 10 minutes tops to get from one side to the other.

Even though it was a little overcast that day, I took so many pictures, that I thought I’d be better to split it into two posts.

So here we go with numero uno —>

Lago di Garda

Check out these little cuties lounging around in the sun

Lots of fresh fruit in front of the city ‘entrance’. I don’t know what’s in the water down there in Italy, but these lemons were the size of a football (ok, maybe a little bit smaller, but not much!!)

Charming and hidden restaurant directly on the ‘beach’

Day I in Italy

As some of you know, I’ve spent the better part of last week in Italy with my family. Italy is one of my favorite countries to visit, the language, the people, the food and wine and also their architecture… what’s not to love?

We started our vacation Thursday morning at 4am by dragging our more or less comatose bodies into our respective cars, and I have to admit I took complete advantage of not having to drive for once and slept for more or less the whole journey. When I finally woke up 6 hours later (well rested, I might add) we’d just arrived in Verona. That’s what I call perfect timing. ;)

After quickly checking into our hotel and taking the time to freshen up a bit, we immediately hit the bus to go into the heart of Verona which holds the famous Arena and looots of exclusive shops. Perfect for a day of strolling around and window-shopping.

Below a few impressions of our first day in Verona.

I love these small alleys with all the colorful buildings. I could stroll around the city and just take it all in all day long.

Piazza Delle Erbe is this gorgeous, opulent plaza which houses the statue of ‘Madonna Verona’, the tower ‘Torre dei Lamberti’ as well as lots of restaurants which are just perfect for resting in the shades, with sunnies on your nose and a glass of Aperol Spritz in your hand, while watching the stylish Italian citizens pass you by.

That’s what resting looks like in Verona ;)

** Safe and Sound **

Hey there,
I’m back from Italy, safe and sound. I came home pretty late yesterday, after being stuck in traffic for nearly nine hours. So not fun!

I don’t know if anyone has heard of the earthquake which hit northern Italy Sunday morning, but it was quite heavy for that region. Thank god we were a few hundred kilometers away from the epicenter, but we still woke up to our hotel room moving!! And I’m not talking about a slight ‘am I imagining things?’-shaking, but more the kind of ‘ok, do I run now, or do I have time to get dressed first?’-shaking.
Looking back on it now, it feels like something out of a weird dream, and not something that actually happened to me. But long story short, nothing bad has happened (to us at least), we just got a little spooked, but all turned out well.

Sooo anyways since I haven’t had time to go through all my pictures yet, I thought I’d tie you over with a few of my Instagram shots from the past few days.

Have a great start to your week! I’ll tell you about how amazing Italy has been tomorrow. ;)
